Don't stare at the eye.
I've posted preliminary mixes from this project before, but I think we're getting closer to done. This is the first time I've ever recorded and/or mixed someone other than myself (besides a single solo piece here & there) and I was surprised at a problem I ran into.
When I'm doing my own stuff, I never get beyond one song projects--so consistency's not a big issue. But these kids come into my basement and they're ready to rip with 5 songs. The tracking environment was very controlled--and I know I kept it all very consistent there. But once I got into mixing, I'd get lost in a song and make my decisions based on what's right for that song. As much as that seems like the right thing to do, when I finished them and came up for air, I found myself worried that they didn't sound cohesive enough. I don't need the songs to sound the same--but like they were done at the same time! You'll probably hear what I'm talking about most in the vox...
Anyway, have a listen. Your feedback is, as always, much appreciated:
(BTW--it's the second set, the 6/3 mixes)
