Mixers with Cubasis VST

Hello,

I bought Cubasis VST, and i am thinking about getting a mixer to hook up to the computer for recording. I plan on recording some songs using my PC. What i was wondering is after i record songs in digital format on my PC and it comes time for mixing, would i be able to use the actual external mixer that is hooked up to my computer to mix the songs, instead of the mixer software that comes with Cubasis VST? Thanks, any and all help would be appreciated.

A mixer is always nice.....not needed except for getting the Analog signal into the computer.....A/D convertor. There are A/D convertors available.....check Frontier Designs, Echo, etc.

For mixing this is less important....mix software (Sonic Foundrys, SoundScape, products, etc.) usually handles the chores. You mix down through them to the CD
it doesn't have togo outside of your computer again.

Happy New Year; If you're recording with Cubasis there's really no need for an external mixer during mixdown. The mixer in the program should be just fine. Besides, I can't picture how you could get enough lines out of the computer to feed each instrument into its own channel on the external mixer.

I do have a Mackie 1202, but really just use it route everything to my monitors and tie the external CD writer to the mini-disc or cassette, or vica versa (got wires running ALL over the place - wife hates it). There have been times when I've run an already mixed down song from my computer into the Mackie mixer then into a Tascam CD-RW5000, but only to get a warmer sound. You must realize that when you come out of the computer into the external mixer, you leave the digital domain and are into analog (unless, of course, you have a digital mixer).

Mixing

Hi Frank,
I've used Cubasis for about 2 years and it's great,the onboard mixer is fine for eq's,effects etc, but if you really feel you want to mix externally, you'll need a sound card which has 8 or more seperate outputs which you route to the inputs of your mixer, but you'll notice a leap in price when going down that road!! I would make do with the internal mixer until you get full version Cubase, cos in Cubase,you will have loads of control of your mix without splashing out on an expensive sound card, ( I use Soundblaster Live Platinum with the standard stereo out and it's great!!
