I recently bought a Mackie 1202 mixer on Ebay and I wanted to make sure I had everything I needed to connect it before it gets here. For now I plan on only recording guitars and vocals. The soundcard I have is a Yamaha 724 (very basic) and only has a single output. Therefore I intended on connecting it to one of the mixer line inputs. Then I was going to connect my computer speakers (ie my makeshift studio monitors) to either the tape output or the the main output of the mixer. Then I was going to connect the mixer to the soundcard input by going from an aux. bus on the mixer. That way I can mix in the tracks I've already recorded with the track I am currently recording and send the mix to either the speakers or headphones. Now the questions I have about this are: 1) Is there a better way to do this? and 2) What kind of connections do I need to use? I'll try and elaborate on question 2. The tape output on the mixer has left and right rca jacks. The main ouput has left and right 1/4" jacks. My computer speakers have a single 1/8" plug. Do I need to use a Y cable to go from the left and right to the computer speakers or do I need to only connect the left.

1. Sounds good to me
2. You only need a Y cable if you want to hear stereo...
