i have a behri ub1222 fx for the first 6 months i thought it was just what the doctor ordered, but at this point im wanting a mixer with no noise, which my mixer has noise.I'm a one man band. so i just record one thign at a time so i dont need a lot of imputs, what i want is true quality.any reccomendations?

I've been pretty happy with my Soundcraft Compact 10. It's very quiet and pretty easy to use for recording. It has 4 mic inputs and 7 more channels for synths, drum machines, or whatever. They also make a smaller version of it called the Compact 4 I think. It only has 4 channels with 2 mic pres.

now im looking at more and more option, would i be better off getitng an audio interface that has phantom, wouldnt this eliminate extra noise that mixers may produce since i just record one track at a time?

The Yamaha 12/4 is a good, quiet inexpensive mixer.

the yamaha has no USB...
how about the yamaha MG series vs. the alesis multimix serie, in terms of preamps, on -board effects and noise, quality of sounds, control, etc... thanx

Why would an analog mixer need USB connectivity?

Is there any need for a mixer at all? A standalone mic preamp is a more direct way of getting your signal 'to tape'. Les circuitry= less noise.

The M Audio DMP-3 is great value. Clean, quiet and plenty of gain.

If you really need a mixer (for headphone monitoring or whatever) then the Yamaha MG series is a good call if you're on a budget. The 10/2 should suit your needs.

If you are just recording 1 source at a time then a mixer would be overkill. You could just get an interface with built in pres and call it a day.
When I record drums I use my mixer but when I do vocals I go right into my Firepod. I figure anywhere I can shorten the path I will.

i do need my drum machione br ablre o hook up for swriting purposes, i m not looking back at straight anolgue mixers as i have ehard with usb mixers you cant do as many tracks well on my system anyway 1.0 ghz 320 ram. So i have kinda narrowed it down to either soundcraft compact 4 or mackie. how goos id soundcraft?
