What should I do about getting a mixer? I'm recording just myself, and only am recording guitar, with an SM57. I was going to order a Wharfedale mixer, but would it be better to just get a single thing (maybe a tube preamp like this - http://www.music123.com/Behringer-Tube-Ultragain-MIC100-i106767.music )? I have a limited budget of around 100 dollars.

Don't throw good money after bad. Save up for something that you can use throughout your career even if you have to wait awhile. Which would you rather have, a Walmart guitar now, or a used Gibson a few months down the road?

Hi this is purplehazerman, I just can't find my password for that account. Anyway what did you have in mind that would be a better single preamp for me? I was looking at the Joe Meek 3Q or whatever and many people said that it can sound weird if you use it for too many tracks.

If possible I would look for used Neve or API preamps, but they are likely outside of your price range. If you can find them though they rarely lose much or any of their value over the years.

While I haven't had direct experience with them, some lower cost ones that may be worth checking out are:
