Is there any reason to mixdown with dither if you're not converting from 24 to 16 bit? IE, if you are mixing from 24 bit tracks to a 24 bit mixdown.

No. Dithering is only useful for resampling to different bit-depth.

Ah, but you should have dithering on! Remember that n-Track uses a standard 32bit internal bit depth, so it is useful to always use dither. (turn it on from properties, and turn it on while mixing down)

Slack - if I check dither in the mixdown dialog, I can then specify how many bits to dither. The default is 1 - should I just leave it at that? And is that dither realy being applied on the 32 to 24 bit conversion?

I just leave it at 1 bit, yeah.

Now, whether the mixdown dither option has any effect on the 32 to 24 bit conversion, I'm not sure, but I check it just in case. Unless it's very stupid, it probably won't dither if it doesn't have to! However, the dither option under properties does apply, as far as I know, to the internal 32 to lower bit depth conversions.

I've been looking into it. It looks to me like the one in the mixdown dialog and the one in the properties dialog are the same. When I checked dither under properties, it automaticly got checked under mixdown.

If you put a waves L1 on the master channel, should you then turn dither off in ntrack?
