How the hell have I missed this thread????

Lots of good ones have already been said. There are so many things I like about so many records from George Harrison's brittle leads on early Beatles stuff (What You're Doing in particular) to Radiohead's OK computer that just do something to me.

Modern favorites that have already been mentioned:
Loveless-My Bloody Valentine (about 20? years ahead of its time)
Mighty Joe Moon-Grant Lee Buffalo (Imagine using a screaming Marshall for an effect likenable to synth pads or strings)
Ritual-Janes Addiction- I'd add Good God's Urge to this.

Right now I'm kind of hung up on "Villa Elaine" by Remy Zero.

Dylan's "Desire" is a fucking great record. There's some kind of tattered quality to it even though the production and performances could be argued to be sloppy.

Live record has got to be Dylan's "Albert Hall" set. Acoustic or loose electric jamming, this album kicks ass.

I agree with Bruce Valeria on both Donald Fagen an Steely Dan.
I also would like to add Steely Dan's "Green Earrings" and
the Average White Band's "Cut the Cake" album, specially the
way the rhythm git and lead gits interplay with each other.
Last but not least,Tower of Power! The way their horns were
mixed and recorded up front, equal to the vocals, bringing
much fire and presence to their songs while the rhythm section was mixed as equally important (especially emphasis
on the bass drum, snare and bass git)as the rest of the band!
Just my opinion!

My Virgin Post - Be Gentle!

My first day as a member and I'm excited about the website. I'm new to the home studio concept although I'm somewhat of a recording veteran. I decided to take the plunge now because high quality recording is becoming more and more accessable to people like me. I'm going to be one of the first(hopefully with the bugs worked out) to own one of the new Yamaha AW4416 hard disc audio stations. Obviously I'm excited, BUT - I'm gonna need a lot of help from you guys and gals. MY FAVORITE MIXES: I agree with the "Abbey Road" comment - especially given the technology they had to work with. Alan Parsons' "Eye in the Sky" is also one of my favorites. Others are Shawn Colvin's " A Few Small Repairs", Joni Mitchell "Court and Spark", and Jimmy Buffet "Barometer Soup" But my very favorite is Dire Straits' "On Every Street". I'm especially impressed with how the accoustic instruments are miked and how Knopfler's undynamic voice (don't get me wrong - I like it) jumps out of the track. Give it a listen if you haven't already done so - its sweet!
