Can I use the "mix to new" function on just one track to "print" the effects onto a new track?

Not sure. The way I do it is to solo that track and do a mixdown. May not be the most efficient way, but it works.

I thought you could ? For example if you pulled a wav file into multitrack view, then added a delay or something to it, then did a mixdown of it.

Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I've done it before.

Go to Multitrack View Edit/Mix Down Selected Track/Mono (otherwise your new track will post in stereo, which is a waste of harddrive). I am doing this on some mixes where the artist wants a CD of various reverbs on her voice. Apply the reverb in Edit View, go back to Multitrack View, make a new track as above, then go back to Edit View with the original track and "Undo" so you can try another 'verb.

Well I started the thread because I thought I would be needing to isolate one particular effect so that I could envelope it. Turns out I didn't have to so I've yet to see if the....Edit/midown selected waves/mono will work on one track but it seems there should be a way to "print" a track just for the purpose I described.

"Printing" in Edit view seems a bit tedious.

I visited the Adobe forum and got an answer from ozpeter who seems to be the resident tech or at least there all the time to answer questions. He says "selected waves" will work.

Let me know if anyone trys it.

I may be missing the question here, but I mix down single tracks all the time. Like where I've comp'd a vocal from 2 vocal takes. I take the "best" from each track, split 'em up, and drag all the parts to a different track (after locking them in place, of course). So what I'm left with is 2 tracks that have holes in them where I've taken parts out, and then one track with a full vocal on it.

Then I highlight all the cobbled together vocal parts on that 3rd track, go to "Edit" , select "mixdown to empty track X," and choose "selected waves, mono."

Presto...new track. Then I just delete everything on the other 3 tracks and choose "close all non session waves." Saves hard drive space.

I probably missed the boat here, lol.

Yes I'm referring more to an easy way to "print/write" the effects to a single track so that I can then add another plug to use with effects envelope.

I do have a question about your methodology. When you have missing gaps in a track doesn't it appear as say....track #1, track1 (2), track1 (3) etc.? When you select tracks for mixdown does the program just ignore the (2), (3) etc. sub catagories of the track and recognise them as simply track #1? Also did you say that all the "kept" parts have to be locked for them to be mixed correctly?

You know, I'm not actually sure how it starts naming them as I drag them down to another track, mostly b/c it's only that way for a few minutes. See, once I've got the best parts of both tracks (for example, Track 1 and Track 2) dragged down to another track (say track 3) [which is the only reason I recommended locking them in time...it makes the dragging down to another track easier]... then it looks like one new vocal track on track 3 - it's just in a lot of pieces. Then I highlight all the "pieces" on track 3, and go to edit and select "mixdown selected waves to new track 4."

At that point, I can delete all the pieces on track 3 if I want (since they're now a new wave file on track 4. I can also delete all the pieces on tracks 1 & 2 if I want, since those were the bad parts of the take...or, I can highlight all the pieces on track 1 & 2 and mix those down to track 5 if I want and use it as my doubled vocal.

At that point, I just save the new mixdowns as something like "Comped Vocal" and "Doubled shit vocal" and now I can "Close all non-session waves" without saving them.

cleans up the session nicely, and saves harddrive space too.

I've been making myself redo tracks completely if they aren't right. It's been good for my self-dicipline to do it this way but your method could be very helpful at times. I didn't know you could select a lot of "pieces" within a track for mixdown.

lol, if I couldn't, I'd never get a bass line recorded.

I usually start recording a bass on one track and go until I screw up (rougly 4 seconds). Then I start where I left off on another track. When I screw up again, I go back and pick it up on the first track...so I end up with 2 tracks with parts of the bass line on both of them.

you can select them either by holding down the CTRL" and selecting each piece by clicking on it, or you can hold down the CTRL button and double click on any track and it'll highlight all of the pieces in that track...

Hey brother it sounds like you ought to try and loop the bass tracks. I haven't tried looping yet so I don't know anything about it but if bass is giving you fits it might be a solution.
