OK I'm listening...

My first point will be about reverb. There is a lot a reverb. Too much for me. Of course it'S MY own opinion, so...ya know, it's not really important.

And, I feel like there is too much compression. I may be wrong, but I kind of feel the compressors pumping (dunno if its the way to say this in english) but, this could be du to the mp3 encoding.

Ok I just listen it again and I 'm pretty sure it's the mp3 thing..

Maybe you shoul try to add so low end, to the snare (lets say 2 or 3 db around 120hz) and the kick need some too (3 db @ 80hz)

...sounds like the acc. guitar stings were old, am I wrong?

I would try to give them a 1 or 2 db around 3600hz and 6000hz.

The guitars is not bad to my ears, but they certainely can handle a bit more presence. Maybe cutting the reverb will bring them front and the EQ I suggest wont be necessairy.

:)

I can barely hear the percussion except for that snare hit (I think that's what it is) that is way too loud.

The vocals are also extremely low, can barely make them out.

Pretty guitar work but again its either too low in the mix or has the snot eq'ed out of it.

thx for advice ..i really need to learn alot...well thats why i come here ..thx

Hello Derek,

Welcome to the board. I checked out the tune and the tune itself is not bad, but there are some mixing issues there.

To my ears, the reverb really dominated the entire mix. Maybe cutting some of that out may help. The vocals were really buried there. Did you mix this on headphones? It kind of has that quality to it.

I didn't care for the drum sound you had on this. I know drum machines are here to stay, so unless we can afford the equipment to record real drums, most of us are stuck with them. I think the programming and the actual sound itself didn't fit the tune so well...but I did like when you brought in the other percussive instrument during the second verse (I believe)...sounded like sleigh bells. Pretty cool.

Overall I would say to just revisit this, maybe cut out some of the verb, bring up the vocals and maybe go with something different for the drums...but these are just my opinions and don't really mean anything.

:)

thx for the suggestions,,yes it was a headphone mix...now that i listen there is to much verb on there..i will bring the vocals up..
what do u suggest for drum parts?

Not sure what to do there. Maybe just try some experimenting and see what you come up with. Getting a good drum sound is always a challenge, and one that I am still trying to master (haven't got there yet...)

Also, always try to mix on something other than headphones. I use headphones for listening for hiss and pops, but always actually mix listening on monitors/speakers. I personally don't have a great set of monitors, but mixing on anything other than headphones is going to help improve your mixes. You will really notice the difference. Also, a real quick tip, don't mix after spending a session tracking. Your ears will be tired and whatever you think sounds good on the mix will probably not sound good in the morning. Mix when your ears are rested.

Good luck!

"Welcome to the board"
No problem, man. This is a great place to hang out and you will learn a great deal about recording and make friends. Best way to get aquainted is to just start going through and checking out other peoples stuff. If you have something to say, go ahead and comment. That is how you get into the grove of it, and before you know it, with the feedback you start getting, you will hear a real difference in your recordings and you will begin to refine your recording style.

:)

Hey Derek. Welcome :)

Here's what I heard:

I'll chime in on the reverb issue. The whole thing sounded very tinny to me except for the acoustic guitar when it comes in at 1:22. Too much highs?

Sounds like things fall apart for a couple seconds at about 0:49 or so.

Vocal is way too far back and to tinny sounding to me.

Sounds like a pretty decent song. Just can't hear the words enough to make a decent judgement on it.

Welcome to the board man. Stick around. You will learn a lot. I know I have and am. :)

Jagular
