What Do You Think of This?

Hi,

I'm working on some punk rock style covers for popular Kpop groups and would like some critiquing, feedback, tips, and any advice that you'd like to share.

Would you please have a listen using your normal listening settings and let me know what stands out, what you hate & love, and any tips you feel would help me polish this to completion?

Thanks!

The bass is definitely too loud for a lot of it. The vox are probably too quiet, and the kick and snare aren't cutting through very well.

Cool idea. Unfortunately, I only know - like - 3 Kpop songs. Lemme know when you do ponponpon.

Awesome, thank you for the advice. The struggle has been to get it to sound as good outside the house (studio, stereo speakers, computer speakers) as it does here. We've been going back and fourth a bit now and want to put this one to bed...I'll make some changes and upload the newer version in the next day or two. See what you think.

For sure,if that song comes up, you will be the first to know. ;)

I'm thinking of doing a poll on my next mix. For the people who don't know how to formulate their own thoughts about my mix, I mean - they can just tick a box if they're too drunk to be articulate. Which would help me polish it to completion.

Hi, thank you both for your feedback!! I updated the mix and added some eq balancing between the vocals and hihats, as well as panned the guitars hard r/l to get them in their own space and widen the mix. Also turned up the snare, kick, and vocals, with minor tweaking to the eqs and compressor settings on these tracks.

After testing on a cheap set of speakers and my KRK Rokit 8/KRK Rokit 10 Sub, I can hear a difference in the areas you pointed out. Please have a listen again and let me know if I am closer to the mark in your listening environment.

Also, thanks for turning me onto Pon Pon Pon, cool stuff, but I like the covers better than the original...here are some treats for you...

First of all, my updated mix for feedback...please be brutal, I want to be sure it sounds right. :) THANKS!!!!

Bass is better on this mix.

I think overall the high end on the mix has some issues too. There's no sense of "airiness" or "breath" on a lot of voices (especially high hat and vox), which kind of makes it feel like the entire top end of the EQ has just been chopped off. (Hats might be a little loud now, too).
As an arrangement decision, I would probably remove the robo FX from the vocals for most of the song. (Maybe leave it in for the first verse and a drop here or there)

Updated Mix 3 Mr. Taxi Mix Feedback

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback again, I have updated the mix to incorporate these adjustments to add air, better separation, and balance in the mix. I also added a small bit of verb on the guitar tracks to widen them a little more and boosted the eq slightly in the upper regions, and cut back the frequencies below 110hz. Unfortunately, we are working with a somewhat sloppy acapella and have been able to clean it up only soo much...even with Melodyne, it was a bit over my head to get rid of the lingering instrumentals in the mix. I sent a message to the band's management company requesting an official acapella, but won't hold my breath. Anyway, the ROBO FX you speak of is just the lingering crap in the acapella. I managed to get rid of a little more of it this pass, see if you notice a positive difference.

Please let me know your thoughts on this mix and any other suggestions you feel are important to share. I really appreciate this input, it gets a tad congested in the brain without other people's input and critiques. Anyone else who cares to chime in, I welcome your brutally honest feedback. Thanks!!

Check it out...
