but there have been a few more since the deadline...sooo i think i will have to give it another listen maybe? was ther any news from the band?

wait a second...i haven't read thru all the last posts.....

you gave them plus and minus, but an actual score and ranking would be sweet.

i guess i just don't feel comfortable ranking them as i am not a great mixer myself...giving my oppinion on which ones are useable to me is a stretch too, but i'm up for that challenge. and i only have my ears to blame. with a rank i would feel the need to base that on tech. related mixing and production which like i said i'm not expeirenced enough to give...

not to mention that i just want to listen to the mixes ,and i figure since i'm gonna do that anyway this would afford me the oppertunity to learn more about different approches to mixing. so with the feedback i gave i would be able to listen and find the changes made to a mix, if they( the nits i made) were takin seriouslly to begin with. ;)

does that make sence?

all in all...its a bigger bite than i can chew

well it's kinda hard to quantify something like a mix and give it an actual score i'd say, because it really is subjective. it's not like a contest to see who can eat the most hot dogs or soemthing, where you get a definitive number to determine who wins...but i guess maybe a 'letter grade' type thing with a short description might work...i dunno though

maybe we should have a head-to-head mixing playoff bracket. and take bets. single elimination mix tournament for the ages!

or how about a mixing BCS system. the two top ranked mixes based on various poll results will face off in the Homerecording.com Mixing Bowl.

:p :D

sounds like you've got another thread to start :D

I haven't listened to them all yet. I will finish tomarrow. Night guys.... :D

Yeah I have all the new ones...I wanna be fair about it and let the band really chew their teeth around all the mixes.....

We're about 1/2 thru all the mixes... :)

At the moment I am leaning towards Chris Saffire...but am giving them all some more listens.. :)

There are so many to choose from and all have their strong and weak points..so it is not easy choosing.

are you going to rank them first to last?

i doubt it...thats a pretty tall order, but maybe a top 3 or something

No...I am only saying that I think Chris Saffire sounds more ready as to what I like the tune sounding like...doesn't mean it is the only one..nor that the others are bad. I may even lean towards another mix in the end. I am kinda torn between several. I don't really like the intro scream being as loud as it is. I personally would have liked a scream building in volume.

You know as well as I, apart from very noticeable gliches, it is a matter of taste of listener. That is why the idea of the band choosing is best. They will get the sound they are looking for.

Good luck to you Brief !!!! :)

I will post what I liked and didn't so much like if you guys wish...if not I won't. ;)

Okay...but I can't tonight. I have to go to my daughter's house in a bit. I will be back tomarrow night and do it !!! :D

Good luck Zed !! :)

I just like getting a ranking so I can look at the plusses and minuses of my mix versus the people above and below me to see what someone right around my level did different, and I also like to compare it to the top entry and think about what makes that a lot better than mine.

I rank my own mix with the rest because it's too subjective. At least an outside judge has a more objective viewpoint than me since I did the mix.

Vanbus2

Axe mix sounds more balanced/panned left/right on the phones, than my monitors...but still sound good to my ears.

Intro volume is good. The intro scream doesn't have any volume or emphasis though and I like that intro growl-scream.

Vocal volume and is good elsewhere and stands on its own admist the instruments.

Bass is nice and full where it needs to be and panned down the middle without being muddy or burying anything else.

The cymbals are not as crystal sounding(ring) as I would like to hear but still good.

The drums are set down the middle too and it sounds great ! The snare has that awesome pop and the toms excellent volume. Kick is good too. The kick and bass are so interweaved, they seem as one instrument. Kudos to the Players on that one.

I may be wrong, but it sounds like you center panned the vox, bass and drums...if so, I don't know how you got it done so as not to muddle the vox with the bass or walk all over the vox or bass with the drums. They each have there own space within the same space.

You have kept the energy and drive on this tune...kudos !!

This is of course my own opinion. :D

Freudian Slip

Your intro is great...Strong and I love how you gave the growl a place...Volume is good too.

Bass has a dark driven energy that never lets up. I like how you kept the 'string pop' on the pick-up(?)... up front.

You did an outstanding job with the vocals. I like the delay/echo and the panning used. It rocks !!

Snare stands out with a nice reverby pop.

I would have liked to hear the cymbals a bit more bell-like. More cowbell!!! :D

The drums are a bit back in the mix, other than the snare.

Man, I love that bass string pop. Gives it some texture.

The panning sounds like the vox, drums and bass are center with this mix too, but the axe sounds more center panned too than not. In fact it all sounds center panned except for the vox delay. It amazes me even more how it isn't muddled with all center...or sounds more centered than not....sounds excellent...other than my desire to hear the toms and kick with more distinction.

I am hooked on that bass pop.

Kudos to you Freud.

Once again...only my opinion here.

Rawdepth

I like the cymbal intro....lost the power of the growl though. :D

I like the vox waver thing, and your creativeness with it...I would like to hear what it sounds like with a tad less...But the more I listen, the more it grows on me.

The bass is good...not quite as poppin as I would like to hear, but an enveloping bottom end....at 4:05 I am wondering if it is the bass you panned right and kept raw or is it one of the axes? It has a sound like that of an electric stand up bass. I honestly can't tell, although it sounds more bassy to my ear.

I like that you have some bell on the cymbals.

Axes sound really really good..lot of dark creepy tones emphasized on and very distinct. You have kept the drive on them.

I like your panning on the headphones with the axes better than on the monitors...they seem to be more left panned on monitors and split in headphones... Sounds like vox center and the bass envelopes everything....like how the tom rolls pan through my bwain from one side to the other.

I also like your dry pop on the snare.

Excellent on that part at 4:05.

Kudos to you !!

My opinion only...
