I've got a soundblaster card w/ only one input, and I am trying to record simultaneously (guitar on left channel, vocals on right channel, or vice versa), onto the same track. I've got a y-cable w/ both plugged in, but what I'm getting is both signals on both sides. How can I separate it out. Do I need a diferent y-cable? Is such separation possible? Am I retarded?

if you are recording to a single stereo file, you are getting signal on left and right because they are both going in dead center....unless you go thru a mixer and pan the 2 signals hard left and right, they will come out center.....

there may be an option in your recording software to record stereo, but record to 2 separate tracks (N-Track will do it).....that would also get you separate signals on separate tracks......i think.....download it and try www.fasoft.com

also make sure that the plug that you are going into the soundcard with is a stereo plug.....

You may be mildly retarded but that hasn't stopped many people from becoming very successfull in the entertainment biz.

Are you using a mixer to send the signals? You need to pan the sources hard left and right. If you are just plugging a mic and guitar into the y cable than we need to send you to remedial preamp classes. There's no short bus so you'll have to walk your lazy ass over to the rack forum. ;)
