hi. this is my first post. i bought my tascam ministudio porta02 mkii off ebay and was assured it worked properly. My problem is that i set up to record, and all the levels show up in the colored lights, everythings great, but when i play back, i dont hear a thing. I bought type 2 cassettes today, thinking that would solve the problem, but still nothing happens. i know about the output levels and all, so i know its not just a knob that needs to be turned. did i buy a bunk recorder, or can i do something to fix this. I WANT TO RECORD SO BAD! PLEASE HELP ME!

ps, i tried recording on a type 1 cassette last night, and had the same problem, but when i put the tape into my stereo, i heard what i had recorded. so it seems to me its a playback issue on the recorder itself. HELP!

I have this exact same problem with the exact same unit. Level meters work when recording, and I popped the tape in my 414 and I could hear what I recorded on playback (albiet in "chipmunk" mode, due to tape speed differences of course), but when I play back on the Porta02, there's no level meters, no audio, nothing.

Hopefully, neither of us have a major problem. I've used a 414 for about two years, so I think I'd know if it were a switch I needed to flip, but there's not many of those to worry about on the 02.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Ha ha, saw under "similar threads" that we're probably SOL. I actually got mine for free, so maybe I could sell it for parts. But if repairs aren't too much money, I guess it'd be worth it.
