mini jack to RCA - delta 2496

I got a M-audio delta 2496 it has RCA in and outs.. Trying to build a converter
RCA in to mini jack in salvaged some parts from an old rca lead and a mini to 1/4inch converter.

Now i got a lenth of cable soldered 2 wires from in side to the terminals on the RCA male socket. I have tryed it both ways on the mini jack side and it just doesnt work any ideas?
 
im going to seeing as i cant get this to work, but i still wonna know why this aint working think this is the first cable i havnt be able to get to work grrr

Also i like to make my own cabling ect.. due to the fact i will know my equipment so well that if it gets broken i can sort it double quick.

Eg this happend to me, i was tracking a band was the last day of recording its 2am (no shops open) doing some overbubing get a few more drum takes

Some twat trips over an XLR lead and pulls the female end in the stage box out bam puts that channel out of use.

10 mins later its fixed cos i built the stage box and cables my self, i knew exactly what was what.
