Miley Cyrus song - Using Autotune?

I can't get youtube to load because it's blocked on my server. But I heard her singing with her dad on the country music awards show. She sang off key several times during the performance, and even though it may have just been the emotion she was trying to convey during the song, it's possible that they doctored her recordings a bit. Hell, most acts are using some sort of pitch correction these days anyway. It saves money in studio time if they are not there for days on end trying to get a good performance out of the singer.

Is that a joke?

I would assume she uses autotune the same way every pop star under 25 does. Besides, I've (proudly) watched the show and the cuts in between scenes are thick with AT. Also, she's done scenes where she's singing and it sounds completely different than the vocals that are in the studio tracks.

Okay - then she probably does use AutoTune. I wonder if Corey Hart got a songwriting credit for the opening melody line?

It sounds like a combination of autotune and a dozen different takes edited together. But it works with the song, so who cares?

She even uses an uncredited body double on stage that pretends to be her singing and dancing while she does costume changes. Do you doubt that she has an AE with Melodyne singing for her uncredited in the control room?

It's kinda sick that parents get in an uproar about her taking some sexy pictures for a magazine because of the bad example it sets for her tweeny fans. What kind of example does it set to say it's OK to fake it and to take credit for things you didn't do, and to say that you, too can be known as a great singer and performer while having others do the singing and performing for you?

It's too late to worry about setting examples like that. An awful lot of people in this world live their entire lives taking credit for someone elses work anyway. In my line of work they're called directors.

Oops, I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you said; I was too busy dodging sniper fire and bringing peace to Northern Ireland...

I've heard that song. Yes, there is definitely some autotune going on there. In some ways, I think autotune is being used these days as an artistic tool. Maybe they were just going for that sound, as most dancy, poppy female singers have that sound nowadays. Considering her popularity and how much her concert tickets are going for, I'm sure they had enough studio time to get it right without autotune if that's what they were going for.

On the other hand, maybe she couldn't do it and comped and autotuned best they could.

None of the melodies are very hard to sing, and she comes from a musical family, so I would assume she's a decent enough singer.

I read an article that they used Celemony Melodyne on ALL her stuff...including the timing issues !

This was an article by Chris Cox, Recording Magazine, April issue. He did the re-mix on the album....interesting read

I read the article, and don't recall anything about autotune in there. I've never heard her sing, but my guess is they used Autotune for the usual reasons cited above in the other posts. An interesting article, though. I wonder how much Chris Cox was paid for that work . . . .

The current Miley Cyrus tune - See You Again - do you think it uses Auto Tune?

Either that, or she is deliberately trying to imitate Stephen Hawking ... a Speak & Spell toy ... or "Joshua," the computer from the movie War Games from the 1980's.

:D

I am still howling and my producer is looking at me weird because I am supposed to be editing a sappy feel good piece for this idiotic mother's day special! :D

holy crap! Anyway- I hear they dont really ask the artists they just send it off to the factory for quality assurance and autotune and splice everything. I know that's pretty well established but I can't say I'm really against it ethically speaking - it's just another toy to throw around and tweak things with at my level anyway

I have a buddy who can imitate the autotune effect, and it's pretty freakin' hilarious.

Kind of like listening to the guy in the Geico comercials (from the Police Academy movies).

What would happen if you autotuned him while he was imitating the autotune effect?
