Hello

I'm going to be purchasing an opus 53 mic soon can't get 2 cos I'm buying a $900 amp at the same time. Now I've got an sm57 on the snare and another mic on the kick. How do I place my mic to get a good sound. I'm supposing behing the kick about 1m50 high tlted about 45 degrees towards the drums. Or should I make it higher and make it tilted down? Should it be a little closer to the hi-hat side of the kit If I aint got a mic on the hi-hat or dos it not matter?

Thanks.

I run mono overheads all the time. I start with it over the snare aimed straight down at it about 4' above it. Listen back and see what sounds offensive or missing and adjust from there. If I need more toms I'll tilt it a bit that way, etc.

ok cool. And a directional stick overhead should work shouldnt it?

I don't understand. A directional stick?

I think by directional stick he means directional mic (not omni or fig 8). If so, yes...point it down. As Track Rat said, make sure to go back an listen. Make sure things sound balanced and listen for phasing problems since you're using a snare and a kick mic. You may have to move the OH around, up down side to side, forward or back.
