Anyway to do this? I want to mic up a kit and route it into EZD/Superior 2.0 through FLStudio in the Piano Roll. Also would it be able to detect velocities?
I use an Alesis DM5. Just take the output from your mic preamps and feed the trigger inputs on the DM5, assign the triggers to the corresponding instrument family/MIDI note #, plug the MIDI output of the DM5 into the MIDI interface of your sequencer/DAW, hit record, play drum kit
...and then prepare yourself for a long night of massaging MIDI data.
Yeah, the Alesis unit will do it if you're on a tight budget, just don't use the thing on its own for drum sounds (uuuggghhhh). Roland products react MUCH, MUCH better from a realism and sensitivity standpoint. The Alesis may not pick up that small snare ruff, or that light, jazzy tom hit, but Roland will. Just depends on what you need. Either unit (I recomend the Roland TD-20 by the way) has the midi outs you're looking for.
