you need to mic a djembe, top and bottom, and here are your mic choices.
at 4033
sm 57
d112
mc012
both mics will be going through a great river mp2nv.
now, what would you do for phase? automaticlly flip the bottom mic out?

sm57 on top, some heavy low-end mic on the bottom (watch out for the great pressure!)

how do you invert the phase if your using say a mackie mixing board with no phase reversal switch?

make a cable with pins two and three reversed at one end. Be sure and check both polarities to see which sounds better before committing.

the 4033 or the MC012 might sound very nice on the top of the djembe - especially if you back them off a bit (like 12"+ away). I'd try the 57 if you were going to close mic the top (like 1"-2" away).

my first choices would be a Sennheiser 421 or an AKG 414. If you have a great sounding room, you might want to do a more distant room mic (like an omni condenser).

I would put the D112 6" or so from the base, and the 4033 or the 012 in cardioid 12-18" from the head and make Littledog reverse the phase, cause he can.-Richie

Ahh djembe, when i miced one, i threw one on the top skin , bottom hole and another mic aimed at middle of the drum, i think 3 inch away.
