Better to ask for advise, than not and end up blowing a bunch of money. That's kinda what this forums about. As far a fishing, I'm thinking about getting rid of my 19 foot Cajun and getting a 21 foot Stratos SS225 Elite, but I need to find a Bass Boat forum for that question:D . Tom.

You can buy my "New" American Strat that is two months old and has a Dimarzio Chopper stacked humbucker in the bridge position that is in excellent shape for $675 shipped to your door! :D

(Sorry, have to try to sell this thing everywhere!)

G&L makes an insanely beautiful sounding guitar.......

Who needs more than one??

Ok..many years ago i only needed two guitars. An Electric and an Accoustic....Some years and 9 guitars later i am still looking. My last purchace was just yesterday. They all sound, feel and play diffrent. It depends on my mood and what i am going for sound wise.

The moral of the storie is pick a price and play them until you find the one that grabs your attention....

Ausrock said it best a ways back. " Let it pick you"

"but which one?" is Fender's secret weapon. That's why they've got so many different models out there. Not to worry though. Like all things musical, play with your fingers and listen to your ears. The answer will come to you. ;)

Last month I went to buy a Strat, and walked out with a '52 Tele replica. I told myself I'd never spend the money for a replica, but that's before I played this one. It's a different sound and feel that a Strat, but like you were wanting, it can go from mellow to screaming in an instant. Definitely worth a try if you are still deciding. Plus, I think that blonde butterscotch is hard to beat. :D

I to prefer Blondes and Butterscotch.................:)

If it was my B-day {and I had the choice} I would rather drive a corvette than a chevette but would test drive others 1st. Why a strat? The novelty of vintage strats have takin them out of my price league. That 56 will run you about 20- 25 grand. If she's buyin go for it. Owe by the way, tell her you love her......

20-25 grand... Hell, she loves me, but everybody has their limits. I've been giving what Ron X and others have been saying about Tele's. (Sorry Gidge, I'm usually 110% in your corner, but I just can't see me getting a Yamaha, but I haven't checked out the G&L's yet). The two electric guitars that I use primarily for recording leads are an Ovation Deacon, and a Pawnshop B.C. Rich Warlock (cool Skull & Crossbones machine heads) with a wammybar. I never use the wammy, but it just seems to be reassuring to know that it's there for some reason... ...Kinda like my dick after I got married:D Tom.

Make sure you do yourself a favor and check out some G&L's.....

also, if you havent picked up a Yamaha or Peavey lately, try one out.....it wont cost a dime to pick one up and slam out "Smoke On The Water" .....really, $$$ for $$$, especially with the "cheap" models, you get more.......

but I would guarantee that ANY decent name brand guitar you buy and have set up right, and feels good in your hand from the first time you pick it up, will make beautiful music.....

Will do, Gidge. Speaking of "set-up", That pawnshop B.C.Rich a mentioned in a previous post... ...I brought the thing to a music store to have it set up for 9's. I brought the thing back three times, and they still couldn't get it right. The G would keep bending out of tune depending which chord I was playing. Granted, at the time I was mostly gigging on an acoustic with mediums, so I was used to pressing down on the strings a little harder than needed for 9's. I finally said f^ck-it, and did it myself. I pulled the nut off and shaved it down a hair, adjusted the neck and bridge, and now it plays nice, and stays in tune (as long as I tune it in the first place). Tom.

buy the tele played by roy buchanan on the nite before he hung himself in the city/county lock-up...

ahhh another which strat thread

If you have the bucks look between 54 and 64 but beware of all those genuine fakes out there :-)

if that comment made no sense its never going too.

If you buy an original try and buy it from an owner who doesnt think that their guitar is worth more then it really is essp if its modified.

A touchy subject indeed whats worth a million to one is worthless to another sure some of those guitars were nice but do you also know how many duds were made on days when certain woods were not available?

Yeah and im sure i,ll get shot down for saying so but ive seen a good swag of them on benches apart and it seemed aparant that alder or ash was not always what was found.

Ive also owned my share of good ones before the prices went stupid but i guess thats supply and demand nothing anyone can do while people are willing to pay stupid prices for these guitars

If you dont have hangups on a decal id still buy a precision made copy from the swag of great custom makers out there and then you can have all the exotic woods you want have it even painted in your fav custom colour nice nitro paintjob etc

if you want to really do yourself a favour get some old staggered polepiece pickups that are blown anything from a sxxxxxxxxxxr from day dot up untill 1973 have these rewound by a real vintage pickup rewinder then you can decide how you want the pickups to sound how tight or loose their wound be how thick or thin the coil is wound or the type of wire you want your pickups wound in

next order yourself a roll of clothwire and then get yourself a steel gotoh vintage reissue bridge make sure you get the gotoh their steel not cast like some other ones around the traps

order a white plastic parts set from yours trully which includes pickup covers back plate vol and tone knobs believe me its heaps cheaper this way then buying them seperate you also will need a yours trully three ply vintage reissue scratch plate get the us ones make sure their us as well not sure if you get the tinfoil plate rear backing or not but if so be sure to rip a small piece of crepe tape and for example if your guitar is to be vintage cream just write mvc in pencil on the tape dont be to neat theynever were :-) and place it behind the plate tinfoil nice talking point for people of the future who eventually end up with your creation.

a fourbolt neckplate and screwkit with nice ummm low digit numbers will also look the part :-)

ahhhh what else gxxxh vintage klusson reissues, string tree, nut, vintage strapbuttons, and a nos switch try if you can and buy stock of nos fxxxxr pots rather then the new chinese ones that we have been forced to use now.

also next time you look at your 62 yours trully reissue take a closer look at the saddles on the bridge notice how they all say fxxxxr fxxxxr and not fxxxxr pat pend well if your creative and you know what im implying here without saying very much the reissue saddles which are blank with a lil effort and someones steady hand can also look the part :-) hey i know thats not nice but hey everyone is too dam serious these days have a lil fun what the heck

if you know where to look you can still obtain clay dot markers i know i have them myself :-) also a brazillian rosewood slabboard can still be made up to spec

now as long as the person making your guitar knows the the more intimate details of building one of these sort after lil treasures iam sure the main guitar you seek with a decal intact will look a sorry second compared to what you just had built.

dont get me wrong here i was a big fan once upon a time but i know the corners that have been cut in certain production a good example have a look at dot markers which dont line up correctly now tell me you you still want what your seeking

If you must have this beast with decals intact look to Japan essp the earlier production models they made them so well that someone in your country pulled the plug so it seems o well i guess thats what happens when you make guitars the way they use to make em :-) or you become good at doing so.......i,ll leave the rest up to those who have better to do then reply this post with negative comment

hey smile it wasnt meant to make ya feel down :-))))))))))

Does anyone ever use the center pickup on a Strat? To me it's just in the way.

Hell, I'll build one myself if I can get the parts at a reasonable price, and get the pickups wound correctly, etc... I restorded my Ovation Deacon after it spent a winter under an area where the roof was leaking. Pretty much trashed the guitar, so I spent a winter getting it back in action, including regluing the neck, all the mother of pearl, and taking every component out of the onboard pre-amp, cleaning it and re-soldering it back to working order. It was a good winter project, and now the thing plays and sounds like it was fresh out of the factory. The only thing I didn't touch was the finish, which for some reason came back with a shit load of elbow grease. So I'm not afraid of tearing something apart, because, with patience, I'll get it back together again. Talk to me about my auto projects in the shop... ... A 1976 Lancia Scorpion, a 1064 Porsche 356C. A 1973 Mercedes 450 SL convertible, and a 1953 MGTD Mach II, not to mention a 1942? Aercoupe. I'm not afraid of projects... ...It keeps me off the streets getting in trouble. I do cruise E-bay and local auctions looking for scraps, that someday may become the guitar of my dreams... ...at least until it's completed, and I start the quest for the next one. Tom.

Who makes Fender tuners?

I would consider a Fender, if it would stay in tune better than my Strat copy.

I would look into the double fat Strat, since you don't really need or use the center pickup, you would be better without it, especially for finger picking. It just gets in the way.

I have grover tuners, and they seem to suck. Play some leed, bend a few strings, and you're out of tune.
