Okay, I admit that I have left the manual for our 688 Midistudio at my friend's, and she's in Italy for a few weeks.
The unit has not been moved, dropped, or otherwise abused. It was stationary and just decided to do this on its own.
I know how to use the routing matrix [except for the reset key-combo] so that is NOT the problem.

Output channels 2 and 3 are dead in the channel matrix. I can use the mic inputs on them, I can assiign them and pan, so the mixer channels are definitely OK.

It appears as though the channel matrix won't send either channel, 2 or 3, through the 'master' section, meaning that those two channels can't go to tape, and the master sliders for 1/2 and 3/4 are basically just 1 and 4.

Everything else works.

I was using it two nights ago, and it worked fine. Then last night I uncovered the unit [I keep it bagged], plugged in, and found I couldn't record on track 3.
Today I discovered that channel 2 has also quit [was working last night].

Routing any mixer / tape channel to tracks 2 and/or 3 doesn't work. All other channels are working to tape and all work from tape.

[output] Channel 2 is not working at all, so I can't mix down from tape using channels 1+2 as usual.

[output] Channel 3 is not working at all, so no go mixing from tape with 3+4.

Output channels 5-8 work properly, so it appears that I'm going to be mixing down without the use of the L+R meters, bleagh.

That said.. I can't remember what the scene-reset key combo is on the 688. I'm hoping it might help, but I'm really grasping at straws at this point. If this unit is deciding to fold, I won't be able to afford a replacement. Feh.

Please help!!!!

Thanks all.

Dex, i'm not sure if this is what you wan't, but here it goes. I have a 688 and looking at the manul, this is what it say's.This will restore the factory presets 1-12, but it will also erase any changes to scenes that you have made.It will erase any custom scenes you have made as well.HOLD CLEAR WHILE TURNING THE MACHINE ON. You can also save scenes to tape if you need to,let me know.

thanks

Tryng it, doubt it will do anything, but will let you know.

I hope part of the preamp section didn't blow. That would suck.
