Midiman DELTA 44

I was thinking it's about time to upgrade from my $25 creative pci soundcard. Is the Midiman DELTA 44 a good choice value and performance-wise? I'm running win2k and do most recording a track at a time. Also does anyone know if this card has pre's built in?

The Delta 44 is a fine card.
It has 4 ins and 4 outs. Maybe more than you need right now. You could also settle for the M-Audio Audiophile with 2 analog ins, 2 analog outs, spdif i/o and midi i/o which is cheaper.

I like my 44 quite a bit. I think almost everything M-Audio makes is quality stuff.

With that in mind, you may want to consider the M-Audio Mobile Pre. It has built-in preamps and is only $130. I haven't used it, but I'd be surprised if it sucked. Anyone out there used the Mobile Pre yet?
 
Oh, BTW, this question is probably better for the computer recording and soundcards forum.
 
Yep, great value in the Delta44! I would recommend it over the audiophile. You can probably keep your existing soundcard for MIDI if you need it.

Delta-44 was the first soundcard I bought, and I still think it's quite decent. I have since came to own a Delta-1010 (the rack mount one) and an Apogee Rosetta 48K. AD on Delta-44 does lack that last little bit of detail - like that last touch of chime out of an acoustic guitar - out of Rosetta. But the differences are very very subtle. Both AD and DA on Delta44 are also surprisingly low noise.

On the other hand, I have wanted to use S/PDIF now and then, and Delta-44 lacks that capability. I ended up buying Delta DIO for that, which costs extra and takes up another slot. In hind sight, I think Delta-66 would have been a better choice.
