Midiman 61 - Xp - No working drives??

Ok, so I just bought a Midiman Keyboard 61 midi controller from ebay, and I downloaded the drivers for XP and installed it on my computer but my computer does not reconize the USB interface. I have 4; 2 back 2 front.

My computer is supposed to have me a prompt screen of "install new hardware" but does not do that, it just says it does not read any drivers...

What the Hell!!!!!

Does anyone have any tips, questions, or solutions???

It does not recognize you usb interfaces at all? Or do you have other usb peripherals that do work?
 
I don't have anything USB going, except my used/ new midi-controller.

I really don't understand this mess...

I have a Pentium IV at 2.0, 512MB of DDR Ram, 20 gig of HD X 2, Asus motherboard, blah , blah blah......

Help, help, I'm being Repressed!!
 
Is your USB interface enabled in the bios of your motherboard?
I had it disabled before I got my first USB thingy.
 
Well, when you start up your computer, before Windows XP is loading, there should be a message like "Press DEL to enter BIOS". Check your motherboard manual.
What is the exact model name?
 
Model name of my mother board?? huh??


WHen I start, I frist start then get the sign-in screen, then I am loaded to the XP Home....
 
Find your manual or open the case and look on the motherboard for a model name.
Could be anything from P4B to P4T533, gives you an idea what to look for. If you can come up with that, I can download the manual myself and try to guide you through it.

I have USB 2.0, if that helps??

When you boot your PC, try to hit the DEL button a couple of times until you see any Windows splash screen showing up. If that happens, you're already too late to enter the BIOS and then you need to boot again.

When you manage to enter the BIOS, go to the
advanced menu -> PCI configuration and check if option
USB 1.1 Controllers says [3 controllers]
If it says [disabled], switch it to [3 controllers]

You could also set USB2.0 controllers to [disabled] to be sure (The midiman is USB 1.1) but that should not matter really.

Refer to your manual, section 4,2 and on.

If it already was on [3 controllers] and that is possible since it appears to be the factory default... well, you've still learned a lot today so far. :)
 
I got into BIOS, and looked for what you were talking about but didn't fine it anyware. But I don't think that that's my problem. My USB hubs are fine.

I get Device not detected all the time but for a few seconds I actually got New Hardware found, but then that quickly disappeared and the same shit happened all over again. I tried clicking on it but it didn't work. It did that twice after I was switching from USB hub to another. BTW, I actually have 6 USB hubs.

My computer just will not send me the "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen.

This sucks! Now I'm gonna have to buy a $40-50 midi interface.

Nothing to worry about. It means that the downloaded file is an archive that self-extracts all the files it contains when you run it. The files will stored on your hard disk (or a blank floppy disk. Forget the floppy disk).

Do you have the same problem with other USB devices? Like a webcam. If you don't have other USB devices, go and borrow one somewhere.

This computer that I'm typing on has WIN 98, and last night I brought the 61 here and the Found NEW HardWare Wizard poped up. But as I said before, on my XP audio computer it don't do that.

So the 61 is fine, it's just my Xp computer.
 
Frank I think your problem may be related to using USB hubs. To eliminate this can you plug the device directly into the USB port on the computer and temporarily remove the hub(s). Does it install properly now? If so you have to use the offending device as a direct connection from a USB port and not thro a hub. You can buy an additional PCI USB 2 card if you need to, in order to achieve this. USB problems often occur as a result of the hub not being able to supply the power needed to run the device in question.
 
I just plugged in my digital camera to the USB on the XP computer, and sure enough the sucker worked!!!

But my 61 still does not!

BTW, the difference between a USB port and hub is... ???
 
Does it recognise the 61 now? Reinstall the XP drivers if it did. Is the 61 appearing as an unknown device in the system yet? I am presuming it is not faulty as it works with your Win98 machine! The difference between the USB port and a hub is that a hub is a way of providing additional simultaneous connections to that single port BUT it is powered seperately from an external PS (and a regulator inside the hub). All the ports in that hub hanging off a USB are then sharing the current potential of that powered hub. Often real USB ports are cabable of higher current output than the hubs that hang off them (without having to share their current like a hub.)
 
The exact words it uses is "USB Device Not Reconized".

Same crap still happening.
