I have yet to get a midi recording into cubase with my Tascam USB 122. What settings need to be change in order to do this. It is as if Cubase doesnt even know there is a device trying to record. Could someone just give a basic desription of what needs to be done in order to record MIDI into cubase and how to play it?? Thanks for the help I realize I am quite slow to pick up on this, but I need to figure it out, peace.

Just make a midi track, set the track's input to the Tascam's midi port and set the channel you're using on the track. Then hit the little red record button on the track and you should be set.

If I started to use Reason. How does that compare with Cubase. What are the positives and negatives?

reason doesn't record audio, only midi.

1. Ease of use: Advantage->Reason. You probably wouldn't ask how you record MIDI :)
2. Expandability: Advantage->Cubase
3. Sound quality: Advantage->Cubase
4. VST/VSTi support: Can't be done in Reason, as it's a closed environment.
5. Record Audio: Can't be done in Reason.
6. CPU drain: Advantage->Reason.

OK... actually, there really is no comparison. Two completely different products. Cubase, by necessity is much more complex than Reason, but it allows you to do much, much more. Just spend some time with the manual and make "Help" menu your friend.
