midi to wav in pro tools--help!

I've been trying to figure out an answer to my dilemna for several days. Using a MBox/Pro Tools LE setup on Mac OSX; Roland Fantom-X synth/sequencer/sampler keyboard. I record a midi track and can hear it; tried everything to convert to audio.

I have read in a few places that if I enable a new audio track, mute everything else except the midi track, and record, it will pick up the midi sound from the keyboard as it plays back and then dump the audio onto the new track.

Well, I tried that and it didn't work... I am using a usb connection for the midi. Any suggestions?

The keyword is 'render'. Mute every other track, then render the midi track, then import it right back in as an audio track.
