MIDI Sequencers

I am looking for alternatives because I can not get past a 200m/sec latency delay using a sequencer that runs under windows. The AISO is software that is supposed to bypass the layers in Windows that cause latency. It crashes my computer.
Is there a sequencer that runs at the DOS prompt? Would that help?
Is there a sequencer that will boot the computer and not involve Windows at all?
Today I did a search on eBay and found that there are stand-alone hardware sequencers or I guess you might call them MIDI work stations. Is that what most of you guys are using? Do they accept VSTs? Any recommendations on something used that I might find on eBay?

I am not sure what you want to do? AFAIK "sequencer" is an old name for MIDI/audio software such as Reaper or Cubase? Yes, Windows WILL give you poor latency, why peeps bypass it with ASIO drivers.

Latency is almost all in the hands of the Interface and especially its drivers. Even quite a modest PC will be fast enough so long as you don't run a load of plug ins at the same time.

The Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 has the lowest latency you will get short of RME. It also comes with Cubase (the original "sequencer"?) nothing better for MIDI.

The KA6 is presently being almost given away at £139!

What audio hardware are you currently using? If you're getting 200+ ms of latency, I'd have to assume that you're using your integrated stock sound chip with Windows WME drivers.

Have you tried ASIO4ALL? If not, give that a try and see if it gets your latency down to acceptable levels. If that doesn't work, then most certainly it's time for a proper audio interface to handle signals going in and out of your computer.
