midi question

hello, all ya audiofreaks!

i have a problem... ive just bought a midi keyboard...
i connect it to thesound cards joystick input in the back and it starts(the light turn on)... then i start cubase, add an VST instrument(configure it), and i think that well shouldnt it just be to press record and the start playin'? but the problem is that i can't get it to record i press and press the keys but it wont register anything... whats the freakin deal here?
i know that cubase gets the signal because the IN goes red on the toolbar(play forward rec thingy)

anyone who knows anything why it doesnt work???
 
I dont know Cubase but have you enabled a track for recording and told it what midi channel to listen to?
 
Yes i have created an track, put midi on it... then to know what channel to listen to... well... how do i know what channel my midi keyboard is sending to then???

i have it in cubase right now on 1...
 
Go into the global settings on your key and see what the global send is set to. You can set it one channel or to send on all channels. Set it to all just to see if you can make it work.

The fact that it wont let you hit record makes me believe that there is one more step to enable the track for recording. If the midi light is blinking you are probably okay for midi.

You should also turn Local OFF on your keyboard. This means that the keys wont play unless a midi signal is received from your sequencer. This helps for trouble shooting and also makes sure you dont have double notes playing on playback.
 
ok... i can se now that i can send it to different midi channels... 1 - 16... but i cant chose all... well 1 then...

about the recording... well... when i hit record it starts the metronome(i have click on) then the slider starts to roll like it should.... but when i press stop it hasent recorded anything, nothing is registerd...

hmm what is CC data CC no- CC32 CC00???
 
maybe i have to say that i should listen to the joystick port not the serial port??
 
You should be able to select the midi port as a device (not joystick but I could be wrong). If there is no midi device listed you may have to install the midi drivers for your sound card.

Can you load a demo song in Cubase to see if it will play your keyboard? That will at least tell you if your midi card is working properly.
 
Ok... i opened a midi... and there was no sound at all... so i will have to install the drivers...

where can i find midi drivers for a turtle beach sound card???
 
Probably at their web site.

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Mutlitmedia and look at the devices. If you have midi drivers installed you will see it in there.
 
OK... yes i have midi drivers installed..

ive tried another program then cubase and it worked then... i used midimapper as the output... but in the setupmme file that comes with cubase the midimapper isnt there
 
Have you selected the VST instrument in the control panel? The manual (which is on the install disc as a .PDF file) should explain how to do it fairly easily. Which version of Cubase are you using? You are on a PC, right?

Yes i went to panels/VST instruments/then i added an instrument, then i also added to instrument in the gray area next to the tracks...
 
im using cubase VST/32 5.1 on a PC...

Turtle beach montego II sound card...
 
ok newer mind you guys... i got it to work... i had some remote setup that i accedently turned on the first time i opend cubase...
but thanks anyway guys... i love this forum!
