midi problem

hello guys i have a midi problem in cubase...

the thing is i have connected my midi keyboard to the computer i start cubase and when i press an button the IN signar goes red(on the play, rec, forward ect ect... panel) but i cant get it to record anything.... if i chose an VST instrument like the HALION it doeusnt sound anything, even if i have assigned a sample to an key.

what can be the problem... im totaly new to midi so i have no clue...

i forgot i connect the midi keyboard into the joystickport on the sound card. dont know if it will help ya guys but...
 
Is halion set up in your VST instruments panel?
After that, make sure you have output set to halion or whatever in the inspector. You can also set it in the grey area next to the tracks.

Yes i have put halion in the instrument(in the gray area)

I have tried to record with another software and that worked... then i used midimapper as the output... but the midimapper isnt availiable in the setupmme file...

in the setupmme i have
MME inputs: TBS montego II MPU-401

MME outputs: TBS montego II MIDI and TBS montego II MPU-401 but no midimapper

PS: the thing is that when i press record it wont record it will start to roll but when i press stop it wont have recorded anything... i wont even get an EDIT window... it will just stop :DS

i'm going nuts here
