I recently upgraded my computer to XP and now I cant use the Yamaha XG-100 software synth that automaticly played my midi sounds inside my Band in a Box composing software. I have searched the net for days and the bottom line is the Yamaha soft synths are not supported under XP (either the 100 or the 50 series).

I have a Yamaha QR-10 that has great sounds in it and has midi in and out. I have been using the line out on this unit and recording it as audio. I just bought a audiophole 2496 to replace my SB live and it has midi in and out on it. My question is this... can I set up my computer to play and record midi inside Band in a Box using the sounds in the QR-10 just as if I still had my Yamaha soft synth working? Is it as easy as hooking up the midi ins and outs from the 2496 and the QR-10?

The instrument sound I get from the built in Midi under XP are crap compared to the Yamaha sounds and I am dead in the water without good sounding midi. I need help here before I go insane.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Well, what you want to do sounds possible. Tought I'm not familiar with Yamaha QR-10, I think it can work as MIDI tone generator.

This link...

It's a good idea to hook Audiophile MIDI Out to QR-10 MIDI in, and vice versa. Config Band in a box to communicate using Audiophile's port, fire up QR-10, and give it a try.

You will still need to record the audio output of your keyboard if you want to use it in a recording. MIDI only transmits control information, no audio.

one little thing....

"Config Band in a box to communicate using Audiophile's port"

Any clue on how I would go about this? I'm a smart guy but this stuff makes me feel like and idiot !!!!

Thanks for the posts.

The Band In a Box manual and help system clearly tell you how to choose MIDI devices.

Wow man, that really cleared things up

"The Band In a Box manual and help system clearly tell you how to choose MIDI devices"

If I could understand the help topics I guess I wouldn't be asking for help now would I ?

Better you dont post this kind of answer to someone who is confused already.

Thanks anyway.

Anyone else have any input on how to get XP to use the sounds in the QR-10 for midi?

Read again my post above. I think it's pretty clear. Connect MIDI cable from MIDI out of Audiophile, to MIDI in of QR-10. MIDI out of QR-10 to MIDI in of Audiophile. Config BiaB to use Audiophile MIDI i/o. Do you have any problem so far?

If he can't get that out of the manual or help system, Jaymz, he probably can't out of your post either...

?

Why are U so nasty AC? I'm just tryin to get my arms around this. I would think someone with over 4,000 posts wouldnt have to put people down any more.

Thanks James I'll give it a try tonite.

I'm usually not nasty, your response to my first post caused me to be.

have some beer man :)

Rain, you could also connect audio out of QR-10 to audio in of the sound card, so that you can record sound of QR-10 midi samples. However, once you have the music recorded this way, it's not midi anymore, so no editing of this sort will be possible.
