I have Sonar 5 PE. Using midi Motu Symphonic Sounds. When I stop playback on a note (Flute or something) the flute keeps playing. Sometimes for a few seconds and sometimes more. Any ideas why it keeps playing on? Doesn't happen all the time and didn't at all when I started using Motu sounds. Seems to happen more and more. Thanks for any help. Have buffer in Sonar at 11.6. And latency in Tascam at 256.

No long notes. No reason they should sustain i think. If I stop playback where there happens to be a note, it just keeps ringing.

I've heard from a couple MOTU users that they have this problem... a reinstall seemed to work for one of them, I suppose that would be your first option... good luck!

What's happening is that you're stopping playback after a note on midi message has been sent by the sequencer, but before the note off message is sent. It can also be that a sustain pedal down message has been sent, and left hanging with stop. Look in Sonar to see if there's an option to deal with this.

There is usually an option (in most sequencers) to send note off events when playback is stopped. That's what you need to find and enable.

Thanks, I'll try reinstall of Motu and check Sonar for such settings. Any Sonar users that would know offhand?

Sometimes my keyboard will get stuck in sustaining mode, and to clear it I just plug a 1/4" cable in the sustain jack and it will clear it.

Could this not be related to latency?
Doubt it. KLatency just means that the note off events will get there a little later, but they'll get there.

Look it up in the manual - it's there under midi options.

But his original post implies that the note keeps playing "for a few seconds" which, to me, means "...and then it stops by itslef." If what you describe is what's happening, the note would hold indefinitely until he did something manually to make it stop. Like step on the sustain pedal and release it, that might stop it (if it is stuck with the sustain on command), or pressing the offending note on the keyboard and releasing it, which would send the missing note off command.

If the note holds for a few seconds and then stops by itself without any further intervention from the user, then it sounds like latency to me. I'd try a few more other things before I resort to a complete re-install.....
