midi keyboard

i've just got a midi keyboard with slidders and controllers that it says will operate things within cubase but it says you have to program cubase to interpretate them .cubase has seen the keyboard and a can use it but how do i program cubase so i can use the other controls?

looked in the manual (alot of head sratching) but i cannot find anything on this,maybee thinking of the wrong terminollogy for it ...i dont know
