Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend the M-Audio Radium, Oxygen, or any other midi keyboard, 49 or 61 keys that would suit me well as my first.(< $200). I think that the Radium is discontinued, but I'm not sure, and any advice would be great.

Thanks alot,

Midi controller keyboards are thick on the ground these days.

You may still be able to find an MAudio Radium at a good price because as far as I know they have been discontinued in favor of the Axiom series.

MAudio makes some good ones but they're by no means the only ones in the marketplace --- in your price range CME, Edirol, Evolution and even Behringer make controllers worthy of consideration.

I personally own the Maudio Keystation 61. It's a good keyboard, but it started giving me problems within a year. Some of the keys stopped responding (sending midi signals to my softwares). The problem is on and off, but it really ticked me off. So I personally stay away from Maudio keyboards from now on.

There are other choices... Under $200, if you prefer a great keyboard range, try the Korg K61. If you prefer a compact keyboard with more knobs for your control surface, try the Edirol PCRM50. You can also check out more keyboards here.

m-audio has served my studio well, and those of many friends also. the only other controller i would consider buying is one of the new novations with 'automapping'.

I used an Evolution MK461C (I think that's the model, I dunno) but it's fantastic. I think tha the Evolutions are actually made by M Audio. I have owned the Keystation 61 and found it to be less than desired for. The Evolution had a lot of options sthat are very useful. The M-Audio Oxygen 49 is also a sweet board. I actually sell them in my store if you are interested (Don't carry the Evolutions though). For 200 bones, the evolution would be a better pick than the radiium in my opinion. If you need a midi interface, look at the oxygen, if not, then look at the evolution.

I've used a Radium 61 for about 18 months with no problems, also use a Keystation Pro 88 (about a year now) with no trouble. The action on the 88 is a bit heavy, but it has been used by several good pianists with no complaints.

I'm a fan of the Edirol MCRM50's myself. They seem to have the most for the money while also having a bit of quality. The few that I have messed around with have seem to be built pretty tough, and simple enough to use.

Midi Controller

If you are looking for a good midi controller I would seek out a used Roland A-50 on ebay you should be able to get one for about 150-200
