I just discovered my Guitar Pro 5 tab program exports midi files of the notes I created. Then I import that file into Pro Tools, and assign an instrument track and an instrument, get the i/o's right, and man, it's magic. Since I don't play piano or keyboard, this is perfect. I actually use 5-string banjo tab to create my midi notes.

I have been trying to get this to work in Reaper, but can't quite seem to get it. I'm sure I'm missing something in the i/o equation.

I don't claim to understand this stuff very well - when I import the midi file, there's two tracks created: one with the midi dots visible in the track, and another without. I set the input of the first track to "all", and wait with the output... Then, I don't do anything with the second track - not sure what or how to use it yet. But then I create an instrument track, a track I can put instrument plugins on. I choose, like some kind of grand piano from expand2. The input is "no input" and the output is "chan 1&2". Then I go back to the first track and when I choose output, "minigrand 1" appears as an option, and I set it to that. That's all there is for my set up in Pro Tools.

Hope that helps in your program.

Doug
