midi drums, using explode function

Hey there is there anyone here who has done drum programming in cubase?

If so, I'm trying to find out if anyone knows how to access the "explode" function that is supposedly under score layout or something. I can't seem to access it in my version, I have Cubase SX. I went to the cubase sight, but it's pretty vague in the searches I ran and it seems to indicate it might only be in VST 5.0 or something.

All I'm trying to do is find out how to take a midi drum track and adjust the levels of the seperate pads seperately, ie: turn up snare, turn down bass drum, apply effects seperately, whatever. If there is a different way to do this that people use other than the explode I would like to learn that too.

Thanks for the help

Not sure if I'm thinking of the same thing....clicking on the circled button with the arrow pointing at it should open up your drum sampler window where you should be able to alter the levels.

No, not using that LM7, although I could if it would do the job.

I am actually using a different program entirely and would prefer to import the midi drums in, but will try either way you are aware of

Sorry I altered my post. See above :) Again not sure if I'm thinking of the same thing

Well, here's the thing, I think what I saw on your pic was a general midi volume level. but I don't think you can alter the volume within the same track on different types of drums, for example the ride, High hat, cymbals, snare.

Or does it let you do that if you use the LM7 thingy??

Thanks

The yellow thing in the red circle i drew usually opens up the drum sampler or whatever midi instrument you are using when you click on it...or at least it does that with battery and the LM7. My pictures a bit crappy, heres a better one...

I'm using Cubase SL3.whatever, and I'm not sure it's the same, but try opening the MIDI key editor and using the pencil tool to edit the volumes (at the bottom, the vertical lines corresponding with the MIDI notes) at will... ;)

Thats changing the velocity for each individual hit. The impression I get is that he wants to set the level of each drum piece, which is a different thing entirely, and would be done in the sampler. I might be wrong tho... :)

i figured it out: click the midi event to hi light it. click "scores", "open selection", "scores" again, "global functions", "explode". choose your options in the options box. :D

i've always wanted to know how to do that but did'nt know what it was called, "explode". thanks for mentioning it.

You also have "Dissolve" (right-click the part, MIDI->dissolve) which creates a track for each individual note (aka drum)

Ah crap, well you guys got it figured out, but I still can't do it, hehe

OK, so if I enter a midi part, let's say drums, and go to "scores" everything is greyed out there and I can't select anything.

If I first open the key editer it then allows those greyed parts, but explode is not an option under global settings.

I tried the dissolve thing and that is available but it didn't do anything that I could identify after selecting it...

please help some more!

oops nevermind, played around with it and found I didnt have it set as GM map on the left side and fixed my own problem and it works now...still don't understand what the difference is between the dissolve and the explode though, maybe someone could explain that?

Thanks
