MIDI Drum Mapping?

Okay so I've been recording for a short while using programmed drums (DFH in Fruity Loops to be precise) and exporting audio samples directly from there into my recordings.

Recently came accross MIDI drum mapping where every hit is triggered to a MIDI file or something. But dont quite understand how it works:confused:, so please help!

Also, what are the pro's of doing it this way?


P.S : Im quite a n00b. So pardon if the question is too dumb.
 
It's basicly how electronic kits work. Each hit of a drum plays that drums preset sound. If you hit the same drum in quick sucsession, it plays the sound, then restarts it when you hit it again, just like how a real kit would sound as the vibrating on the skin/symbal starts again.
