MIDI Delay

Hi, I have been searching everywhere for a basic solution regarding this and cannot find one anywhere.

From what I have read so far, this seems to be quite a common problem with MIDI and controllers.

Basically, when I have a MIDI channel set up in my sequencer (Nuendo 2), then record incoming MIDI from my keyboard (Korg X5D), I find there is a slight, yet noticable delay from when I actually strike a key and the MIDI output produced/recorded.

I currently have an M-Audio Delta 1010LT that I plug both MIDI in and out into.

I have read that it has something to do with latency, however when I change the latency option in the M-Audio control panel, this does nothing. I assume this particular latency setting is to do with recording audio and not MIDI.

I eventually hope to configure Nuendo with the actual sounds from my X5D, but until then, how can I get my keyboard and MIDI output in sync?

this is covered in depth on cubase.net. I would hit them up

Can't you afford a midi tutor when you can afford a $2500 sequencing package?

Did Daddy spent all his money in one place and has now cut you off?

Or is there another explanation for you having a Cadillac Escalade sequencer to go with your Geo Metro hardware?

you have read and read but you havent read the manual because it is there in the manual. go to the index and look for latency and it will explain it better than any one here on how to change the settings.

Thats just uncalled for. I'll have you know I worked my ass off to get the equipment I've got right now.

I've come on here asking for help, as I gather that is what this forum is about rather than having some immature prick poke sly remarks about me, my family, or my finances or whatever.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice guys (bar this tit), I've managed to sort out the problem. It wasn't latency related, just something to do with the MIDI out device I had been using in the sequencer (GS Wavetable). I managed to install my Korg and the instrument definition file and selected that as the output device. No problems now.

So, you paid > $2000 for a software package a long time ago (current version is 3), and just NOW figured out how to set up your MIDI out device?

For one thing, it's about not helping thieves, pirates and warez users.

You are quite obviously one if not all of the three, and that qualifies you as an object of scorn.

Go to a pirate board and ask for help --- and you can keep your bullshit about working your ass off.

...Do you seriously not have anything better to do at all?

Just for your information, I purchased a version of Nuendo 2.0 (to be specific, did you get that?) around September 2004 (I believe it hadn't been long out by then). I got it cheap (£1000) as it had previously been on display on a shop PC and had no dongle included. I bought it as a friend recommended it. He had used the software at university for his music technology/production course and said it had everything I would ever need.

For the record, I have only really been recording since then and I am still fairly new to the concept (I have only recently ventured into MIDI due to needing it for VSTi like Toontracks DFH Superior and soon to be Eastwest Symphonic Orchestra. Untill now, I have always miked/DI'd everything). I have managed to get all the basics I need to make it work but I am serious about taking it further in the next few months, perhaps even moving it to a small local premises depending on how things go (ie due to family, the band, etc).
