The last question was a bit unclear. I am asking for information on how to reduce latency from the midi controller. Specifically, would a USB keyboard controller have less latency on a soft-synth than a regular midi keyboard controller connected through a midi patchbay, i.e. Midi Timepiece AV.

Latency has nothing to do with the MIDI controller. Latency is all about the time it takes for a computer/soundcard to process AUDIO input and spit it back out again or generate the actual sound if you are talking about a softsynth.

The note trigger signal will not get any faster by switching to a USB controller over a MIDI one.

Yes I understand what you are saying but

There is a definite consensus about this subject. Obviously, no matter how "fast" the trigger, the conversion speed will remain the same. The reason I asked was this: when I play a note on the keyboard, the midi signal first goes into the Midi Timepiece AV, then the signal goes into digital performer or into the computer, the VST Wrapper converts the signal into a readable format for the MAS program, then the signal is converted or something in the actual program which is the Attack drum program, it is then spit out into the sound card and out of the MOTU 2408 MKII. Actually, I have no idea where and when the conversions are actually taking place but, there is extreme latency going on. I was hoping that by avoiding the Midi Timepiece I would be able to reduce some of the signal time by shortening the signal path. Becuase or the response, I am going to consider an upgrade of RAM and a different signal routing internally. That may also be contributing.

i'm so glad i got a simple setup...
the most important place should be where the audio is triggered by the midi signal, and that would be the waldorf attack... this will then mainly be a soundcard and cpu issue... faster cpu and decreased audio buffer... what soundcard was that again???
