Midi Controller not being picked up by Interface

I have an Akai MPD18 and a Tascam US-144mkII and i cant get the Mpd18 to play out of the tascam i am using SONAR X1 STUDIO and cant seem to find out how to get it set up to where i can hear my MPD18 can anyone help me??

I'm a little confused by your question and equipment. Isn't the Tascam just an audio interface? Isn't the Akai just a midi control device? What are you using for a sound module or synth?

MPD18 is a midi controller used to trigger virtual software instruments.......plug it into a usb port. it requires that you have software instruments. Does your version of SONAR have Virtual instruments. IF not you wont hear anything as there are no sounds in the controller
