Hi Everyone,
I have just purchased a Tascam 564 without a user manual. I am trying to suss out how I get a recording using the midi keyboard which I've connected to machine and keyboard. Iv'e used 2 cables in the 5 din sockets in-to-out and out-to-in
What do I do then??
Has anyone got a copy of a manual they could mail me? johnhgault@gmail.com
Thanks
John

Okay!

The MIDI-In & MIDI-Out on the 564 is not for recording MIDI data, but it's for input/output of Midi Time Code, for purposes of synchronizing the 564 with other MTC capable recorders, and/or for driving an external sequencer. (Maybe your MIDI keyboard has a built-in sequencer).

Also, I believe the 564 will accommodate Midi Machine Code, (MMC), thru the MIDI ports, which is a control code to control the 564's transport controls from an external MIDI control device.

The way to get a MIDI keyboard signal recorded onto the 564, is through "traditional" methods, which means connecting the audio line-outs of the keyboard to the line-in's on the 564, (with a standard instrument cord with 1/4" plugs), and routing the keyboard signal through the analog mixer section, which then gets recorded onto the Minidisc as audio-data.

Being fairly sophisticated in function, the 564 user's manual is recommended. Tascam Parts sells manuals for most of it's older gear, at (323) 727-8480.

Aaaagh!

I don't know why I always misquote Tascam's number, since I call it often enough!

Tascam Parts' CORRECT NUMBER is (323)727-4840.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't buy the manual i'll scan mine on and email to you or publish it for you to download. i'll let you know when it's done. let me know what you'd prefer.
