Alright well I've been on musicians friend for microphones for recording and I can honestly say I have no idea what really to look for. I prefer something that is good for both clean AND screaming vocals because that's the type of music I'm really into. Right now we have a standard cheap microphone and the vocals aren't very good. what suggestions do you all have for good recording microphones for under 200 dollars?

Narrow it down.
What caught your eye in Musician's Friend?
Keep in mind though that it's all entirely subjective.

Yep, a used Shure sm7b would definitely be a good pick if you could find one! Although it might be a little difficult to find one for $200, but you never know.

I may be selling mine for around that PM me if interested

I Find the Oktava MK-219 works great on just about everything.

Wow.... inflation gets everyone in the end...

I thought these threads were supposed to be "Best microphone for rap/emo/screamo/death metal/rock/pop for under $100" but the OP has under $200... sign of the times... :)

Look - there are many answers to this question - you'll need to find something that works with your voice. Do you have the option to actually audition any microphones, or are you flying blind and trying to just pick one from the interwebs...

Describe your voice - that might help people give you more accurate pointers...

I use a Rode NT2 primarily... not something most would choose, perhaps, but it happens to work will with the voices in my band, so it's all good. Also depends, to some extent, on what you're plugging it into...

What works for me is the voices in my head! :D And a EV RE20.

Same here! but defiantly over $200.

I feel kinda of like a zealot for getting rid of the SM7B with all of the great things you hear, but it never seemed to click for me, Glad to know I'm not alone

When I got a EV RE20 My whole SM7b world was turned upside down. For me that is, Other people that I've used it on has had better results. Guess it all boils down to the source.

@ moresound

Sorry to intrude on this thread, but I've tried for two days now to reply to your PM, and I keep getting a "database error" when I click Send. If you email me from my site I'll reply that way:

Answering what armistice said about my voice I'm not sure if you've heard the band Abandon All Ships but it sounds like the screaming vocals from their...

I recommend that you look at the mics on ebay or whatever internet company you like (musicians friend or whatever) and then google "[mic name] reviews" for all the mics under 200 bucks. look for a mic that gets consistently good reviews for vocal work. Bingo.

Also, you could call sweetwater.com and see what they say. I've never talked to them myself, but I have a friend who says they can be pretty helpful.
