Microphone to de-emphasize midrange? Rode NTK?

So used from ebay is not an option?

There is one microphone that hasn't been mentioned as yet and that would be the MXL V67g ....Take a look at that one.

Because there are aspects of microphone performance that cannot be reduced to frequency response, including proximity effect, noise, and impulse response. Even if it were possible to control for those factors (it's not), given that some microphone must be purchased, it's much more efficient to buy a microphone suited for a single purpose where that is what is required.

I never said there wasn't. I was merely offering an opinion. Since the OP seems concerned primarily with the frequency response. Having something with a flat-ish response can help at least better identify what is really needed. Even if the mic with the flat response is NOT what is needed.
 
The fidelity is not quite high enough in the video below to discern nuances of these four mics (mostly, I think, because they drove the audio too hot into the video), but perhaps listening to this will be of some help to the OP.

Thank you so much again for all your help guys, you've all given me valuable tips! I feel like I know a lot more and that will make it easier for me to pick one :)
