Hi again,

I know that trial & error is the name of the game but ... (1) How far away should one stand from a condenser mic (when singing softly and again when getting louder) ? Some approximations to start me off if u can. (2) How far away, from the condenser, should I position a "pop filter" ?

Thanks again,

Dan

I use an NT-1 for vocal and it seems to work for me at about a 12" to 16" distance, with filter about 6" to 8" from mic. I prefer to keep it all in reasonable distance of my desktop/workstation, soes I can reach my mouse and revord vox at the same time.

Ok thanks :)

It's all relative . . .

The distances previously given would be minimums and for soft vocals. I find that if I start standing on my voice or getting louder I can be at least 3ft. away - also when recording gut string guitar I've been getting good results at about a 2 foot proximity.

hi,

I've found that singing soft vocals directly into the mic- about an inch away- gives it a warmness. About 4 inches away also works well.

Yep. You can also get more of a spacious/distant sound when you sing farther away (duh). And you can probably get a bit louder than usual if you sing away from it.
