I read a post from Cyan-Jaguar, he has referred to a

Modded Shure Sm58.

Could I please get an explanation of this ?

How does one Modify a mic ?

Where does one go ?

What are the benefits ?

What are the disadvantages ?

All Comments Welcome !

Ps.

This means you Cyan.

Modding a mic could mean many things

It could mean changing the capsule,
changing the tube,
removing the pop screen,
or a number of other things

The benefits are that you might get a smoother tone,
or a clearer tone,
or a more present tone.

The disadvantages are that a mod could cost you more than the mic originally cost,
or you might have more plosives and have to use a pop filter.

The particular mod on my sm58 was to improve highend response, realism, and to take care of any phase issues.

Did you do it yourself? Had it done?
What exactly was done?

Modding a mic could also mean: throwing it on the floor, or applying all kinds of violent mechanical forces on it, resulting in a slightly different sound. No sound at all means you over-modded it.

roel,

no, I did not mod it myself. It was modded when I got it. I am sure that I can get the details though. I like the way it sounds though.

GET THE DETAILS!! GO FOR IT! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT!!

Thanks...

YES, YES , YES

Get those details!!!!

PLEASE!

GO!

HURRY UP!!!!!!!

I've got the details

what the guy who sold it to me said:

he removed the windscreen. Bwahaha!

Loved the throw-it-on-the-floor mod.

For other ideas, try this guy's site:

all jokes aside, taking that funky ass ball off the sm58 is the best thing you can do for it..or better yet, get a sm57 in the first place......
