we recently a-b'ed the 57 and the b1 on three different amps and the b1 came up on top each time, extremely natural sounding.. whenever and wherever we stuck the 57 it seemed to sound like we were running through an emulater.... thats not to say a 57 won't work for you, but personally i like the way the b1 picks up the subtlties of slight overdriven guitars

I liked the 797 Audio/Studio Projects B1 mic on my Fender Twin amp... I don't think it was better than the Shure SM57, different yes, nice yes, but not better... but then again, I like the Sennheiser MD421 more than both the B1 and SM57 on guitar amps and IMO both the SM57 and MD421 will out live the B1.

the problem with the b1 is that is lacking some mid-range low end. the 57 and the b1 mixed together makes a pretty nice sound if you can work with the phase issues.

The fact is that when you are miking a guitar cab you have a source that is usually already dirtied to a considerable amount.

i.e.

1) Wierd tone controls on the guitar

2) Stomp Boxes

3) Less than linear amplifiers

4) Speaker drivers designed to have various break-up modes and a very peaky freq-response.

Whether a Mic then adds a small amount of coloration that matters to that lot is very much open to debate.

If it works for you then use it but for the most faithfull reproduction use the most faithful Mic and that is NOT the SM57

i wasn't dissing your behringers, by the way.

!

Noisedude if I had to worry about anyone dissing the Berry's I would have to hide myself away is some darkened cupboard.

They are not exactly mics of the month on this board

If you ever get chance to come to the West Mids give us a nod and if I am working with a band you can come and have a listen (berry mics an all).

Thanks mate, I believe you that they are good but next time my housemate goes home to Tamworth I'll get him to give me a lift to your place :)
