i was wondering if anybodies used a particular hihats cymbals microphone.i can't be a sm57 .please any ideas? thanks. ;)

your gonna wanna use a Small Condensor mic

but i dont mic the hi hats so i couldnt tell ya

when I do mic hats I use beyer m201's or oktava 012's... mxl 603 would be another good choice

i've heard from people that love using the Shure SM81LC for a hi-hat mic. i'm not a very experienced drum-mic'er, but out of my arsenal, i'd go with the Oktava MC012. ive never mic'ed a hi hat before though, i just use the Oktavas for overheads.

The Oktava MK-012 (aka MC-012) is a great choice for home recording folks like you and me. That's what I'm currently using. The sound is relatively clean and detailed without being harsh. The -10 dB pad helps, too. They make great overhead and tom mics as well. Go for it.

An AKG C451/CK1 is my first grab, the Beyer M201 is okay too, the Sennheiser MD441 is nice as well, but sometimes a ribbon is best, depends on the hats and the drummer.

Oktava MKC012 is what i'm getting useable results out of at the moment.i prefer it over the small diagphram condensors i got because of the lveved tops.
