Micing through a guitar amp...

This is not for recording, obviously, but for the purposes of practicing.

For band practice, I'm sick and tired of bringing my PA equiptment back and forth between places, so my question is: is it safe to run a microphone through a guitar amp? I have a cheap Peavey 30-watt I wish to achieve this with, and an XRL female to 1/4" plug-in to connect my mic to the amp. Considering the range of human vocals and the range of guitar is similar in many respects, it seems that it wouldn't hurt the speakers.

Obviously, sound quality may be lacking, but the question is, should it work alright?

I do it all the time. I also use the guitar amp with a Green bullet mic for harmonica as well.

You will need a high impedence mic, or an adapter to work on most guitar amps, unless there is a low-Z input.

Shouldn't harm the amp at all.

Don't expect good sound results, but it is ok for practising, I did it a lot and never had technical problems. Off course, try to avoid feedback.
