Micing the kick drum?

The other night I recorded the drum tracks for a song and I have two mic's placed on my snare. One on top and the other on bottom. Well, the bottom mic was accidentally set to a different channel and it was somehow picking up the kick drum. Now, I have two channels that are from the kick and was wondering if the mic on the snare is picking up the attack from the front of the kick, would I have to phase one of the mics? When I phase one of them, it doesn't sound right, but when I have them no phasing it sounds like normal. What am I doing wrong?

Is the bottom snare mic picking up kick drum?
 
If it sounds right without inverting the phase--don't invert the phase. The fact that you say it sounds bad when you do invert the phase means that you were okay to begin with.
 
I'll take a stab in the dark.

Assuming you have 2 channels from the same kick mic, because of the routing problem. If that's the case, just shut one of them off.

If you have and are wondering if the top snare mic and the kick mic need to be phase reversed, no.

If you have the bottom mic picking up the attack of the kick, it may or may not need to be reversed. It depends on the distance and angle of the mic.
 
yea....I have it facing the bottom head, or I must've did a double input on the kick. Would that a be a bad idea? I think the bottom mic of the snare wasn't on and I put that input as the bass drum. Somehow, now I'm confused.

So you have two bass drum tracks. If they sound the same, that's what it is. Turn one off.

Not having a bottom snare mic is not the end of the world.
 
for some reason, I think having both mics make it sound deep, but I think I might do that just to see what it will sound like.

There is only one mic on two tracks. With both of them on, it will just be louder.

I could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like you did. I doubt you have two different mics on the kick.
