Arite peeps,

Noob question, micing my DSL401 at the moment with SM57,just wondering if there is any benefit to using DI out as well or would I be better getting another mic,or maybe just two takes with mic in different positions?

Using the UX2 at the moment cos I`m green an believed the shite on the box,
Dunno if it would cope with two mics.
If I did two takes would I have to pan any specific way?

Cheers.:)

Hey dude...

What I do is track the part with a 57 on the cab and then track it again to another channel (play the same part again) with the mic in a little different position and maybe a different guitar or different EQ or pickups.

I've also tried doing a DI and mic combo but like the sound of a miked cab better.

Experiment around man...you'll find that sweet spot.

Peace............Kel

oh...and about the panning....

whatever sounds good. I rarely pan them hard right and left but that's what I did on that tune I put in the MP3 forum. Motor Vehicle Breakdown Blues if ya wanna check the panning.

You'd only be doing it for the tonal difference, not as multilayered guitar tracks. I think the best guitar sound comes from 2 takes on 2 tracks, and pan em pretty far left and right. I always use a different mic / mic placement / amp on the 2nd track.

I rarely pan them hard right and left....

Really?? I musta been listening to someone else's Doghaus Records tracks! Unless.. Well, what do you consider 'hard'? No not that, don't be a perv... :D
