anyone tried combination sp b1 and sm57 at the same time to mic vocals? or has anyone tried the double mic'd vocal approach? I think I saw a thread somewhere like this before... couldn't find it.
i've got a band coming in in a couple weeks and that's exactly what i plan to do for at least a couple tunes--put up 2 mics mainly so i don't have to spend the time on mic selection for a particular song--put both of em up and record the vocal parts with both. i know the B1 sounds good on his voice....i'm expecting the re38 to as well, and if you've got the tracks, why not?
i might even use both in the mix, since i tend to copy/double a lead vocal anyway.....might be an interesting effect if nothing else.
and then again, i might not..... ;-P
FWIW, neil young was doing this to a different extent on the directv freeview of his Greendale acoustic gig--he had a kms105 for his main vocal mic (or so it looked) an sm57 setup as a secondary mic that then ran into some sort of vocoder or fuzzbox. i've seen warren haynes do this too, using a shure 55 (elvis mic) running into some sort of distortion box for Blind Man in the Dark (among other tunes).
