Hello all,
I'm just taking my first steps in a DAW.I just bought an M-Audio Omni studio PCI and am looking for mic configuration suggestions.
I'll be recording vocals, acoustic guitar, electric through mic'd amp, banjo, mandolin and harmonica, sometimes in stereo.
I plan to purchase two mics, and they will only be used for home recording.
I guess my question is should I go with two condensers or a dynamic and a condender.

Thanks very much.

Hmmm. tough call. What's your budget? A Large Diaphram Condensor and a dynamic like the SM57 would be a good start. But a matched pair of Small Diaphram Condensors would be great for other things too.

Sm57 and a used Beyer ribbon (m160/260/500) perhaps? Both used should come out at ca. $275.

Pair of Rode NT5's.....quite nice or others always recommend the mxl603's and last but not least a friend of mine swears the crown cm700's are better than the Neumann klm184's.

$200-300 tops
I'd probably go with a single MXL603s (you can get another one later to complete the pair, the "matched pairs" aren't that matched anyway), plus a studio projects B1 and if you can find a used SM57 for cheap, toss that in there too. Should come in under $300, if not $200 if you get used.

Thanks for all the advice:)
I went with an SM57 and a SP B1 (the new one has dual pad and dual Hi-Pass filters...sweeet) for now.
Cheers
