LMAO!!! I have never seen a $1000 mic stand before, but I don't doubt that there is one.
I don't think you are going to find any better quality then that King......The price suggests something that will last long enough for your grandkids to give to their grandkids!!!
I go for the $16 OnStage mic stands for everything...for my overheads I just put weights on the legs so the mic doesnt fall and I lose $200. I'm trying to devise a way of weighing it down without those weights...hmmm!
Most places I've recorded at, the recording would've benefited from a stand that works like those hallway chinning bars that expand via threads to provide enough pressure against the walls to support the chinner.
Only the mic stand would expand from floor to ceiling instead of wall to wall. First you'd insert enough extension sections to make the whole thing close to the room height, then screw it down tight. This would provide an easy to transport and very stable platform for overheads placed far above the ground. No weights required!
And no damage to floor or ceiling as the ends can be rubber padded like those chinning bars.
Yeah- RE, those look VERY nice for studio use, but I haven't got a team of roadies to carry my shit and sandbags and weight sets aren't my idea of portable equipment.
Plus- I think those prices are a bit out of my league.
Shouldn't the mics cost more than the stands?
Damn RE. Those are some fine quality stands. I like those Oktava ones too...buuut, im sorry, those ones are a little below my set price range of $1000+ tho.
I dont understand what is so awesome about a $1000+ stand to warrant that sort of price tag. I know some of them have some sort of hydrolic dampening device action, but I have seen that on stands that cost a fraction of the price. Is it really just reliability and the fact that they last forever?
in Nigeria, high school teachers make about $25 a month, so I guess it will take a teacher only 3 years and 4 months to buy one, assuming he does not spend money on anything else.
THe only problem is how will he explain saving that long for a ----mic stand.
